Craps Strategies

The game of Craps is an exciting game where players take turns rolling the dice and this is called being the Shooter. Any player, whether they are shooting or not, can place wagers on the table.

Types of Wagers in Craps

Line Bets are Pass Line bets and Don’t Pass line bets. The Shooter is the only player at the table that is required to make a Line bet if he wants to shoot. At some casinos all players are required to make, at least, a minimum Line bet. .

The Pass line bet is a bet that the Shooter will win their Point. A come out roll of 7 or 11 is an immediate win for the Pass Line and a come out roll of 2, 3, or 12 is an immediate loss for the Pass line. If the come out roll establishes a point then all Pass line bets are that the shooter will hit the point before crapping out and all Don’t pass line bets are that the Shooter will crap out before hitting the point.

The Don’t Pass Line bet is a bet for the Shooter not to make his point. It is basically the opposite bet to a Pass Line bet. Betting on the Don’t Pass line is often called “playing the dark side” and may be considered by some to be a bet in poor taste or even taboo.

Pass Odds

Once a Point is established, players that bet on the Pass Line can place a bet behind their Pass Line bet, called an Odds bet. These are very important bets for the players at the table because the Pass Line pays even money and the Odds bets are paid at the true odds. The size of the bet that a player can place on Pass Odds is dependent on the rules of the casino where a player is playing. It is always best to place minimum Line bets and maximum odds bets because you get better pay outs and the house advantage is reduced.

Single Roll Bets

Single Roll bets are also called proposition bets

dice. Most of these bets are located at the center of the table and are called Service Bets. In a live casino only the stickman can place these bets and must be asked to place them by the player. Service bets are 2 (Snake Eyes or Aces), 3 (ace deuce), 11 (Yo), 12 (boxcard, midnight, or cornrows), 2 or 12 (high low), Any Craps (three way), C & E, and any seven. Other single roll bets are the Horn, Whirl or World, On the Hop, and the Field. A Field bet is that the number 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, or 11 is rolled before the player craps out. This is a self service bet and does not require the stickman to place it. If the player does not remove his bet and winnings after each roll then it is considered that he has let the bet ride.

Multi Roll Bets

The types of Multi Roll Bets are Hard Way, Easy Way, Big 6 and Big 8, and Place and buy.

Craps Systems

The Martingale system is one of the best know systems and is used in other types of casino games. The system is based upon doubling of bets when you lose and reverting back to the original bet size when you win.

The Parity hedge system is a system that is considered to be a hoax and although it is promoted as a winning system there is really no actual system.

Dice Setting or Dice Control

The dice setting or dice control systems are where you place the dice in a certain orientation and then shoot them in such a manner that they do not tumble randomly, There is some mathematical sense to this and casinos take steps to prevent this by requiring the dice throw to hit the back wall of the table, which is normally covered with protrusions, normally diamond shapes, to make controlled spins more difficult.
